Chasing the Boogeyman (ARC Book Review)
An immersive read perfect for true crime lovers, “Chasing the Boogeyman” follows the mystery of a fictional serial killer in small-town Maryland through the perspective of an increasingly popular author.
The deception in this book is at another level. From the forward to the staged photographs, this thriller will have you questioning what’s real and fact-checking at every turn. The “true story” premise and setup of the book is one of the most enthralling parts and makes the story all the more immersive and interesting.
After a somewhat exposition-heavy beginning, “Chasing the Boogeyman” fervently fuels up into an addictive ride that will have readers avidly turning pages. With few clues, the killer remains a complete mystery until the moment of reveal, allowing those who tend to guess endings a chance to be surprised. However, the story leaves us with a sparse and somewhat disappointing conclusion that gives too little and has minimal lead-up.
I rated “Chasing the Boogeyman” 3 out of 5 stars.
